Our 2 day RAS short Course was held at Soldiers Point Bowling Club on the 22 & 23rd October 2016. It was a joint NSWAA & FNFA event and sponsored by Pentair Aquatic Systems and NSW DPI Fisheries. Being sponsored kept the attendance costs low and association members received a further discounted registration price.

Numbers were limited to 50 to ensure attendants received the best information and those attending could benefit from personalised information and receive responses to all their questions. A wealth of information was presented by Dr Tom Losordo and Dennis DeLong. Tom is the principal Scientist and Chief Engineer for Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems and Dennis is Pentair’s Manager of Customer Advocacy. Normally based in the USA these are two of the world’s foremost experts on RAS Aquaculture and we are very grateful to Pentair and NSW DPI Fisheries for sponsoring them and organising this short course.

The Conference Dinner was at Tailor Made Fish Farm on the Saturday night. Tailor Made is a Barramundi Farm producing 1000kgs of premium barramundi each week and using waste water to hydroponically grow leafy greens. We all did a tour of the farm before dinner and then settled back to a great feed of the farms produce in their Cookabarra Restaurant and Function Centre.

Course notes were presented to attendants and additional information was emailed to all attendants providing a mass of reference material for further study and information. Our previous short course was with Tom back in 2013, let’s hope the next is sooner rather than later.

Cheers
