NSW DPI Fisheries have lodged a project application with the Department of Planning to establish a research lease off Port Stephens to extend their successful marine hatchery research. The experimental fish-farm would be established inside the Port Stephens marine park under a $1.4 million NSW Department of Primary Industries plan. The key species proposed for this work include Mulloway, Yellowtail Kingfish and possibly Southern Bluefin Tuna which are currently being cultured at PSFI.
