The Bait Yabby Industry

The yabby Cherax destructor is commercially aquacultured all over Australia but this article is based on production from NSW and Victoria.

Bait Yabbies
Yabbies have a myriad of uses and one of these is the use of yabbies as bait by recreational fishers. The demand for bait yabbies is skyrocketing at the moment. I’m not sure what’s happening in other states but in NSW and Victoria the demand is through the roof. In the good old days people used to be happy to spend half the day catching bait and the other half fishing with the bait. Those days are long gone. Now people just buy their bait and go fishing. One of the best baits available is small live yabbies.
